Ipamorelin is a synthetic growth-hormone secretagogue that acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor, also known as GHS-R1a. It was developed for greater selectivity toward growth-hormone release than earlier growth-hormone-releasing peptides. Research applications include pituitary signaling, receptor selectivity, growth-hormone secretion, endocrine feedback and comparison with GHRP-2, GHRP-6, ghrelin and GHRH analogues. Ipamorelin may also be used in preclinical models investigating gastrointestinal motility and other ghrelin-receptor functions. Results should be interpreted according to species, receptor expression, concentration and assay design, since selectivity and downstream responses can vary between experimental systems.
