Small-molecule NNMT inhibitor used in experimental research on methylation metabolism and adipose-energy pathways.
5-Amino-1MQ, also known as 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium, is a small-molecule research compound rather than a peptide. It is studied as an inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT), an enzyme involved in nicotinamide and methyl-donor metabolism. Preclinical research has used 5-Amino-1MQ to investigate adipose-tissue biology, cellular energy balance, insulin sensitivity, methylation pathways and the metabolic consequences of NNMT inhibition. It may be used in enzyme-inhibition assays, cell-culture experiments, pharmacokinetic analysis and comparative studies with other NNMT-targeting compounds. As with any small-molecule inhibitor, interpretation should consider target selectivity, off-target activity, solvent controls, concentration and model-specific effects.
